I was fortunate enough to have been born in Vernon, B.C., a lovely little town in the heart of the Okanagan Valley. This beautiful region of British Columbia is known for its lush orchards and productive wineries and is a prime tourist destination for people from around the world. My father was an orchardist which meant our family was intensely involved in the production of apples, peaches, cherries, apricots, as well as growing and harvesting beans and tomatoes on our 10 acre farm. As the second youngest in a family of 12 children, life was always busy and everyone was expected to help out either on the farm or in the house with a variety of chores. My inspiration for writing developed out of these experiences. In Ogopogo Odyssey I have crafted a story that grew out of my own interest in the local folklore I had heard my entire life. In my writings for At Home Magazine and Any Excuse for A Party, I share my love of entertaining, particularly in the context of home. I am passionate about sharing my ideas for home entertaining, as I believe it's a rewarding way to share who you are with others.
These days, I also work full-time as an English teacher at St. Michaels University School in Victoria, B.C. where I have been living since completing my university degrees. I teach students from Grades 9 through 12 and enjoy the diversity of students at the school, many of whom come from various corners of the world. Working with teenagers is never dull and it's safe to say that no two days are ever alike. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to share both my love of literature and writing with them on a daily basis.
